Helldivers 2, Arrowhead’s runaway co-op shooter success, is officially making the jump to Xbox Series X/S on August 26, 2025. Originally released on PlayStation 5 and PC, the hit third-person bug-splattering, robot-crushing shooter will bring its full chaotic glory to Microsoft’s consoles—complete with cross-platform play across all versions.
It’s a surprising but welcome move from Sony. This marks only the second time the company has brought one of its major franchises to Xbox, following the multi-platform success of MLB The Show. In short: it’s rare air. And for a live-service co-op title like Helldivers 2, expanding the player base makes perfect sense.
Cross-play will be fully supported, meaning squads can finally unite without platform barriers—great news for Xbox and PlayStation players alike (and for PC fans stuck in the middle). No one fights alone in Helldivers 2, and now no one has to buy a new console either.
Pre-orders are already live on the Microsoft Store, with two editions up for grabs:
- Standard Edition – $39.99
- Super Citizen Edition – $59.99 (includes exclusive armor, weapons, and in-game bonuses)
“We know gamers have been asking for this,” said Game Director Mikael Eriksson in the official announcement. “The more stories we can tell together, the better.”
For Xbox players, the launch also promises technical perks: potential optimization for 4K visuals and up to 120 FPS on Series X—a nice touch for those who like their alien extermination buttery smooth.
This move continues the recent trend of Sony loosening its platform exclusivity, following the PC releases of titles like Horizon Zero Dawn and Ghost of Tsushima. For PC gamers, it means an even larger cross-platform community. For Xbox fans, it’s one less reason to feel left out.
