Amazon Games has pulled back the curtain on New World: Aeternum Season 9—“Season of the Banner”—bringing a fresh batch of PvP chaos, world events, and shiny cosmetics to the ever-evolving MMO when it launches on July 29.
The headline feature is the full release of Capture the Flag, a new PvP mode that pits teams against each other in frantic, objective-driven battles. Players will fight over flags on two community-named maps, Frozen Pass and Forbidden City, with matches that aim to blend classic capture-the-flag mayhem with New World’s unique flavor of tactical combat. It’s not exactly reinventing the wheel, but it could inject some much-needed adrenaline into Aeternum’s PvP scene.
Alongside flag-snatching fun, 3v3 Arena players are getting the Verdant Court—a compact new battleground designed for fast, brutal skirmishes. Free-for-All is also getting an “Anti-Grouping Curse” (aka: no more impromptu alliances) and better rewards, including faster chest looting and higher-quality gear.
Artifact hunters have reason to rejoice too. Season 9 introduces new and reworked Artifacts including Plagueherald (Helmet), Yeeterson (Warhammer), Crescent’s Wave (Greatsword), and Vengeance (Life Staff Rework). There’s also a returning Season Reward Track, packed with cosmetics, boosts, and seasonal loot for both free and premium players.
For PvE fans and roleplayers, the Summer Medleyfaire returns, bringing music mini-games, fishing challenges, and enough seasonal cosmetics to make your character look festival-ready. Players can earn event tokens through daily and weekly tasks, exchanging them for unique skins, housing decor, and more.
World Boss events are also back, with Admiral Blackpowder (Aug. 5–11), Empress Zhou (Sept. 9–15), and Mammoth Mahantaram (Oct. 7–13) ready to drop loot and remind you that bigger always means meaner. Boost events—like double refining XP and double weapon XP—are sprinkled throughout the season for those looking to speed up progression.
Looking ahead, players will get a sneak peek at the next Outpost Rush map before its full launch in Season 10, which is already teasing a new zone, raid, dungeon updates, a customizable HUD, and the long-awaited global crafting storage.
One thing that won’t be returning: Seasonal Servers. Amazon Games confirmed they’re officially gone for good—though, judging by the relatively positive subreddit reaction (for once), most players won’t shed a tear over their departure.
All in all, Season 9 looks like a solid, if not groundbreaking, update designed to keep both PvP and PvE players engaged while the dev team gears up for bigger content drops in Season 10 and beyond.
Get ready to capture flags, slay bosses, and fish your way to glory when New World: Aeternum Season 9 launches July 29. See you in Aeternum.
