Ubisoft Reveals Surprise Free DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Back in August, Ubisoft quietly announced it was working on a surprise free DLC for Assassin’s Creed Mirage. That DLC now has a name, a release date, and a new region: Valley of Memory, arriving November 18.

Valley of Memory thrusts Basim into the ancient oasis region of AlUla, a place that Ubisoft described as “charged with history.” The DLC includes a new main quest, side missions, assassination targets, contracts, and more, offering around six hours of new content for the stealth-focused action-adventure game.

AlUla’s terrain will include the historic town, the Musa Ibn Musayr fortress, the Valley of Stones, and the necropolis of Hegra. But it’s not all sightseeing. The region is crawling with raiders and mercenaries, and Basim’s search for his long-lost father pulls him deeper into the valley’s dangers.

If free content isn’t enough, Valley of Memory also brings base game upgrades: enhanced parkour controls such as a manual jump toggle, new control tweaks for freer movement between climbs and leaps, and further tool customization via a new “Engineer 2” skill along with level 3 tool mods. New difficulty levels are coming, too.

Ubisoft says recreating AlUla was a challenge since much of its 9th-century layout has been lost to history. That being said, the team tried their best to capture the spirit of its landmarks while ensuring the environment supports traversal, exploration, and stealth gameplay.

The DLC, however, has not escaped controversy. Its setting in Saudi Arabia, its announcement in Riyadh, and apparent involvement by Savvy Games, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), have raised eyebrows both internally and among fans. The timing has also drawn attention, coming just weeks after the PIF-led consortium’s record-breaking $55 billion acquisition of Electronic Arts, further highlighting Saudi Arabia’s growing influence in the global games industry.

Also notable: Assassins Creed Mirage was originally marketed as a standalone title without post-launch DLC plans. This surprise expansion marks a shift in that stance.

Whether Valley of Memory becomes a beloved late-game addition or a footnote in franchise politics will depend on execution. If the six hours it promises are tight and exciting, fans may enjoy the expansion. If it feels like padding or symbolic geography, the DLC’s provenance may be the louder note.
