Battle for Randland is officially stepping into the Light. Flemish studio, Witsteen BV, has announced that beta registrations are now open for the newly rebuilt digital trading card game based on Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time universe. Formerly known as Cards of Eternity, the project has been reworked from the ground up into a traditional, blockchain-free collectible card game (CCG) with full cross-platform play between PC and mobile.
Instead of leaning into NFTs or crypto trends, Battle for Randland aims to be a mechanically rich, lore-heavy experience that mirrors the sprawling political and magical factions of the source material. Players can align with either the Light or Shadow and select from four starter decks:
- Children of the Light (Light): Whitecloak control and battlefield discipline
- Flame of Tar Valon (Light): Aes Sedai spellcasting and support mechanics
- Will of the Forsaken (Shadow): Corruption and manipulation via Darkfriends
- Horde of the Blight (Shadow): Raw aggression with trollocs and Myrddraal
Each match unfolds on a 3D battlefield where animated companions act out spell effects and card abilities, adding spectacle to the strategy. The game includes bot matches, tutorials, casual and ranked play, with early feedback shaping its final form.
The reboot also distances itself from its Aether Games origins. Witsteen’s press release notes that the game has been fully rebuilt under new leadership, signaling a fresh start that maintains the fantasy DNA while shedding prior baggage.
Battle for Randland is slated for release in Q4 2025, and players can now sign up for the beta on the official website. The game is also available to wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store and for pre-registration on Google Play and the App Store.
Whether you’re a newcomer to the Pattern or still recovering from Amazon’s take on it, Battle for Randland might be the most faithful Wheel of Time adaptation yet.
