A landmark of early immersive sims is getting a long-overdue makeover. During Sony’s State of Play showcase, Eidos Montreal and Aspyr officially announced Deus Ex Remastered, set to release February 5, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam), and Nintendo Switch.

This isn’t just a re-release. The developers promise refreshed lighting, dynamic shadows, enhanced particle systems, upscaled textures, rebuilt character models with lip-syncing, and ragdoll physics. On the quality-of-life side, expect autosaves, faster loads, cloud saves, achievements, and support for ultrawide/multi-monitor setups.

It’s been 25 years since the original Deus Ex first launched in 2000, and over decades the PC community has somewhat kept it alive via mods like Revision and The Nameless Mod. That legacy sets a high bar and early reactions suggest fans are already critical of the visual direction. Some critics claim the trailer makes the remaster look “awful,” comparing the updated textures to “2003 graphics.” Also raising eyebrows is the remaster’s price of $29.99 (or $26 preorder) which the community feels is a bit steep when the entire Deus Ex series is often bundled for under $10 on Steam.

Still, the chance to play an optimized, modernized version of Deus Ex across consoles and PC is exciting, especially for players who never touched the original or rely on mod-heavy setups. Whether Deus Ex Remastered hits the sweet spot between nostalgia and modernization remains to be seen. In the meantime, you can check out what it looks like in the announcement trailer below.
