Blizzard isn’t done refining Diablo 4’s endgame just yet. Following the launch of Season 10: Season of Infernal Chaos last month, Blizzard has confirmed that major reworks to Masterworking and Tempering are on the way. According to lead live-class designer Adam Fletcher, the changes will arrive on the Public Test Realm (PTR) “in the coming weeks.”

The planned update focuses on making endgame crafting less punishing and more rewarding, especially for players chasing near-perfect gear. Failed Masterworking attempts will no longer fully reset an item’s progress; instead, players will retain previously successful upgrade tiers, preserving some of their hard-earned progress. Tempering will also be adjusted to allow players to replace affixes instead of locking items permanently, a long-requested quality-of-life improvement among action RPG veterans.

While not yet live, the upcoming PTR update is expected to introduce further balance changes to the Pit of Artificers, a late-game dungeon used for farming rare upgrade materials. Blizzard previously stated that drop rates for Obducite, Ingolith, and Neathiron will be increased, with higher Pit tiers dropping guaranteed Greater materials and improved UI feedback for safer upgrades.

Community feedback has been highly positive toward the announcement. Many Diablo 4 players on Reddit, Discord, and the official forums have noted that Blizzard seems to be “listening more lately,” praising the studio’s continued effort to refine its loot-driven endgame loop. Others are hoping these crafting updates will carry over to future patches, aligning with Loot Reborn’s core design philosophy of rewarding experimentation over punishment.

While there’s no confirmed release date for the PTR build, Blizzard’s usual testing cadence suggests the patch could go live within the next few weeks. The studio has reiterated its commitment to ongoing system refinement throughout Season 10 and beyond, as Diablo 4 continues evolving into one of the most ambitious action RPGs on the market.
