Dune: Awakening Patch Accidentally Turns PvE Safe Zones into PvP

It's like The Purge, only in Arrakis.

Dune: Awakening’s latest update, Patch 1.1.15.0, was supposed to bring stability, spice, and smoother survival. Instead, it accidentally transformed parts of the game’s Deep Desert PvE zones into full-blown PvP free-for-alls, and players are not amused.

The issue, first flagged by frustrated players on the Dune: Awakening subreddit, affects multiple sectors including D6, E2 Lab Island, E5, and other PvE-designated zones where PvP rules were unintentionally activated after the patch dropped earlier today.

The result? Players logging back in to find their bases destroyed, their spice stockpiles wiped out, and in some cases, control points spawning directly inside their homes—all without warning. One Redditor summed it up:

“We left for the day, came back, and our entire base was flattened. They ran five waves on us. I’m done.”

Another player reported that they and their entire group uninstalled the game on the spot after repeatedly being griefed by opportunistic players exploiting the bug.

Funcom has since acknowledged the issue in a brief statement, calling it unintentional and promising that it will be fixed “with the next Coriolis Storm”—which, as players have pointed out, could be anywhere from hours to days away.

In the meantime, the damage is already done: bases have been wiped, safe zones have turned into ambush zones, and endgame player morale is somewhere around rock bottom.

Players flooded both Reddit and the Steam Community forums, demanding an immediate rollback to restore lost progress and prevent further griefing. Some even begged for emergency server shutdowns to contain the chaos.

Community manager Andy B., however, poured cold water on the idea of a rollback, stating bluntly that, “[A rollback] is not a viable option.“

That decision sparked further backlash, with one Redditor sarcastically commenting, “Funcom cares, guys, they totally care…” as screenshots of destroyed bases and looted inventories circulated across the community.

To make matters worse, the patch also introduced several other bugs including: vehicles getting shoved underground by sandworms, infinite loading screens, random inventory rollbacks, and UI glitches.

At the time of writing, the PvP bug remains live. Players who haven’t been hit yet are still farming spice in Deep Desert, widening the resource gap between those who lost everything and those who didn’t.

The community’s verdict so far? The patch broke the game for some, Funcom’s fix is too slow, and the decision against rollback may have cost the studio more players than any sandworm ever could.
