Square Enix is ringing in Final Fantasy XIV’s 12th anniversary with a packed slate of updates: the annual The Rising in-game event, a crossover with Monster Hunter: Wilds, and confirmation that the MMO is being developed for Nintendo’s Switch 2.
The Rising will run from August 27 through September 9, continuing the tradition of celebrating the game’s original relaunch with festive quests and new cosmetic rewards. This year’s event also includes a free login campaign, allowing lapsed players to return without a subscription for the duration.
The festivities won’t end there. In October, FFXIV players will face off against Arkveld—the flagship monster of Monster Hunter: Wilds—in a new crossover event. Victory will unlock themed cosmetics and a Seikret mount, while Monster Hunter: Wilds players will get their own FFXIV-inspired crossover content.
Meanwhile, producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed at Gamescom that Final Fantasy XIV is officially in development for the Nintendo Switch 2. Yoshida says that it’s “a work in progress” while discussions with Nintendo continue. This marks the fantasy MMORPG’s latest expansion into new hardware after its previous debuts on PlayStation and PC.
With a packed anniversary, a major crossover, and a new console port in sight, Final Fantasy XIV shows no signs of slowing down as it enters its second decade.
