Nintendo’s elusive next-gen hybrid—the Switch 2—has finally entered its “readily available” era. As of late July, major retailers across the U.S. and U.K.—from Best Buy and Target to BJs (yes, we’re trying not to laugh)—have the console in stock, often bundled with Mario Kart World Tour. Amazon is still doing that weird invite-only system in the U.S., but Target, Sam’s Club, Walmart, and yes, BJs, all offer it online or in-store at MSRP.
This stock surge suspiciously coincides with the launch of Donkey Kong Bananza—a Switch 2 exclusive that’s apparently compelling enough to get Nintendo to open the floodgates (or at least turn on the faucet). Pricing holds steady at $449.99 for the base unit, $499.99 for bundles. Nintendo says production will continue through Fall 2025, but like most of their disclaimers, it comes with a “while supplies last” asterisk.
Meanwhile, those clinging to their OG Switches can breathe a sigh of relief: Nintendo confirmed that first-gen games and hardware will still be supported, despite the new console’s arrival. And if you caught the Partner Showcase Direct on July 31, you saw cross-gen compatibility and some slick third-party reveals that mean your backlog isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
