Void Interactive’s hyper-realistic tactical shooter Ready or Not hit a massive milestone last week: over 1 million console copies sold in just 3.6 days following its July 15 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, compared to 36 days to hit the same mark on PC. That brings its total lifetime sales to over 10 million units across platforms—a stunning achievement for the indie SWAT sim.
That build-up didn’t unfold without friction. Earlier this month, Void patched both PC and console versions to tone down gore and dismemberment, citing console certification requirements. The PC community erupted with review-bombing campaigns over “sanitized” content—particularly disturbing scenes involving minors—and users demanded optional toggles rather than forced censorship. Void defended the changes as limited and necessary, claiming they kept the overall tone intact and eased cross-play development.
Despite the backlash, console players appear largely unbothered. Metacritic scores hover at 84 on Xbox and 82 on PlayStation, while Steam ratings remain mixed due to lingering PC criticism. Still, the console launch drove a surge in PC concurrent players—peaking over 32,000—and sold well enough to crack Steam’s top 15, thanks in part to a 50% Summer Sale and the surrounding controversy.
Military-grade realism is Ready or Not’s core appeal: tense hostage rescues, swift breach-and-clears, and ethically weighty less-lethal decisions—all those high-stakes SWAT ops that defined its PC launch in late 2023. The console versions? They feel polished and full-featured, and the cross-platform squad play is fully functional.
“I’m incredibly proud … Going from 36 days on PC to 3.6 days on console is a huge moment,“ said Void Interactive CEO Julio Rodriguez in the official press release. The studio promises ongoing updates and fixes to address performance, AI, and content concerns.
