As teased last week, Aniplex and JOYCITY have teamed up with Capcom to bring Resident Evil Survival Unit, a fresh mobile real-time strategy spin-off of the beloved horror series, to iOS and Android later this year.
Launching in a parallel timeline to RE2 and RE3, Survival Unit opens in a mysterious hospital where you’re the latest test subject of the Umbrella Corporation—an origin story that serves as a springboard for city escape and base-building in a crumbling mansion. Players will oversee a playable roster of characters—Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield, and Jill Valentine among them—each bringing strategic perks to the fight.
This isn’t just fan service: the legendary Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D) has contributed a spine-chilling creature design called “Mortem,” a shadowy horror designed to make your skin crawl without ever fully showing its face. It’s the kind of haunting creativity RE fans can appreciate on a new canvas.
Behind the scenes, veteran Shinji Hashimoto is producing alongside Capcom’s Masachika Kawata, with JOYCITY pulling from its multiplayer strategy pedigree.
This mobile strategy title blends base building, environmental puzzles, and real-time squad mechanics—not a remake or riff on the RE4 merchant system, but an evolution into strategy-lite with survival horror flair. And yes, it’s officially parallel-universe canon, so familiar characters are free to crossover whenever the devs feel like it.
Survival Unit is set for a late 2025 launch and will be free-to-play with optional in-app purchases. Pre-registrations are now open worldwide, giving fans an early ticket to this tactical reimagining of the franchise on mobile.
