Star Wars: The Old Republic players are being targeted by a new phishing scheme disguised as a Twitch giveaway, with scammers attempting to trick users into handing over their login details.
The scam first came to light when a player on Reddit reported losing their account after clicking a suspicious link shared in fleet chat and on Twitch. The post described a promise of a massive credit giveaway that instead redirected to a fake SWTOR login page built to steal account details. Swtorista later spread the word to warn the wider community.
Players on the official SWTOR forums and Reddit have since shared similar experiences, many pointing to the same “13 billion credit giveaway” pitch tied to a Twitch stream. The link leads to a convincing copy of the SWTOR login page, where entering your information hands over your username, password, and possibly your 2FA security key. While two-factor authentication is meant to protect accounts by generating a new code each login, a single stolen code can still let attackers break in, take control, and clean out everything you own.
Signs It’s A Scam
- Giveaway links shared in general or fleet chat that claim to require login.
- Redirects to a login page that isn’t hosted on the official swtor.com domain.
- Promises of large credit handouts or Twitch “drops” that don’t match official announcements.
Players who entered their details on one of these fake sites are urged to change their password immediately on the official site. Those locked out of their accounts should contact BioWare customer support for recovery.
The Star Wars: The Old Republic community has been quick to spread the word, with posts across forums and social media warning players to be cautious. As with all scams, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
